For 20+ years, Recovery Care has specialized in treating addiction and co-occurring related problems, using methods that are proven to be effective in recovery. The following is a list of these areas and methods used in session.
TREATMENT FOCUS
ACT: Focuses on helping you to behave more consistently with your own values. It encourages you to embrace your thoughts and feelings, rather than fight or avoid them, whilst, still committing to create positive change. Learning mindfulness skills will help develop the psychological flexibility needed to achieve true happiness.
DBT: Teaches you how to manage emotions, accept yourself, and learn how to make sustained behavioral changes; which in turn, also helps improve your relationships with others. Components of DBT are mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and emotional regulation. DBT aligns two opposite concepts: acceptance that your experiences and feelings are valid, whilst striving for positive change.
CBT: Teaches how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. In essence, a positive change in one area can create change in all areas. In CBT, people learn how to identify automatic negative thinking patterns that leads to overwhelming emotions and counterproductive behavior, so that healthy perceptions of reality can be formed, and positive life goals achieved.
CAT: Creative methods are used to achieve catharsis. Being emotionally connected to your treatment brings healing and a commitment to create positive change. Many people find experiential exercises like writing, acting, and drawing to be an effective introspective therapy tool. This treatment is especially helpful for those who have difficulty identifying their emotions, and/or, expressing their feelings.
MI: Explores and resolves ambivalence and mixed feelings so creating positive behavioral change is made possible. The therapist's role is to help you engage in change talk so you can identify what you want to do with your life. The therapist then helps you plan out how your goals can be achieved and implemented. This is done through an empathic, non-judgmental and supportive process.
(RT): Purpose is to reduce or eliminate intense emotions associated with a traumatic event, or an addiction craving memory. The process involves writing a narrative about an experience, and is combined with a non-addictive beta blocker medication. Used together over a 6 to 8 session period, this process can effect positive change both emotionally and behaviorally.
Possible benefits: Traumatic symptoms can be reduced or eliminated (e.g., flashbacks, nightmares, and intrusive thoughts). Addiction craving memories can be eliminated or better managed; thus, reducing the risk of relapse.
(SMART): 4 - Point Process
SMART Recovery groups are free of charge, and are exclusively for Recovery Care clients. This type of group therapy process is an alternative to 12-Step groups. SMART meetings are focused on science based solutions rather than spirituality. A core belief in SMART meetings is that addiction and recovery is a choice. In session, clients will learn specific tools to help them achieve their sobriety goals.
SFT: Focus is on your strengths rather than weaknesses, and explores what skills, resources, and coping strategies you already possess that can help achieve future goals. This brief therapy process also examines solutions rather than problems, and looks toward the future, rather than the past.
